Historic Victory: Bible Passages Return to Texas Curriculum–But More Work Remains

Texas activists and conservative leaders have executed some of the most significant and transformative education reforms in recent Texas history, and Patriot Mobile has stood by their side along the way. These changes were made, in part, to implement legislation enacted by the 88th and 89th Texas Legislatures, but they weren’t possible without citizen activists taking action. These decisions create a pivotal shift in how more than 5.5 million Texas students, as well as millions of students in other states, will learn history and literature.

Four Years in the Making

This victory did not happen overnight.

Prior to June 2026, Texas did not have a statewide required literature list. This created concerns about consistency and declining reading skills, as well as inappropriate and even outlawed content. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) determine what students learn in Texas classrooms and play a vital role in shaping how future generations understand history, government, civics, and the principles that influenced Texas and the United States.

In 2022, when proposed TEKS revisions raised concerns about extremist anti-American ideological content, Patriot Mobile mobilized its Texas members to take action. More than 2,500 members signed a petition urging state leaders to reject the proposed standards and ensure Texas students received an education grounded in historical accuracy rather than political ideology. Patriot Mobile representatives hand-delivered that petition to the SBOE and activated moms and dads to testify at that meeting. These actions, together with many conservative partners, succeeded in delaying the TEKS and literary list discussions until qualified content advisors could be appointed to develop revised standards. Those advisors worked for years to bring the new TEKS for a vote in 2026.

April 2026, Patriot Mobile funded True Texas Project’s charter bus to carry citizen activists to Austin to testify at the SBOE’s first reading meeting. The opposition was intense. The Center for American Islamic Relations (CAIR-designated by Texas Governor Abbott as Foreign Terrorists and Transnational Criminal Organizations), together with multiple extreme leftist organizations, packed the room. TTP’s bus also brought a force of common sense moms and dads standing strong for the integrity of Texas education.

June 2026, Patriot Mobile funded another True Texas Project charter bus to, once again, carry citizen activists to Austin to testify at the second reading, which was supposed to be the Board’s final consideration of the revised TEKS and literature reading list.

The Result? Significant Victories–But More Work Remains

That June 2026 meeting went well into the night, resulting in some major victories but also another delay. The successes include approval of the K-12 required literature reading list that incorporates timeless works of enduring literary and moral value alongside key Bible passages. Additionally, the new Social Studies TEKS with far superior content for grades K-8 were also adopted at that meeting. However, there is more work to be done. High school Social Studies TEKS for grades 9-12 was delayed until the September SBOE meeting.

A Broad Coalition of Support

Support for the revised standards came from a broad coalition of organizations, including Texas Values, True Texas Project, Patriot Academy, Texas Eagle Forum, Grassroots America, Intercessors for America, and the Denton County Republican Party, united in their efforts to preserve a more complete understanding of Texas and American history. Patriot Mobile was honored to stand alongside these organizations and the many thousands of Texans who participated throughout this multi-year effort.

At Patriot Mobile, we believe freedom depends on an informed and engaged citizenry. We are grateful to every member and every Texan who signed petitions, testified, and made their voices heard. This historic victory demonstrates what is possible when engaged citizens stand together to defend truth and shape the future for the next generation.

Where We Go from Here

Texans can count on us to continue working alongside these Texas organizations to ensure strong, rigorous TEKS for our high schools. But we can’t do it alone. We need Texans to stay in the fight with us. Together, we can protect educational excellence and uphold the values that matter most to Texas families.
