The Misinterpretation of Separation of Church and State
For generations, prayer and Scripture were part of public education, shaping the moral and cultural fabric of our nation. When the Supreme Court banned prayer and Bible reading from classrooms in the 1960s, the consequences rippled through every aspect of society.
Kelly Shackelford, President and CEO of First Liberty Institute, explains how this happened: “They started using terms like separation of church and state, and of course, those terms are nowhere in the Constitution. But when you use it in a strict way, what you’re saying is anywhere government is, religion can’t be. Government is everywhere now—so it’s simply a way to push religious freedom and religious expression into the corners of society.”
But in fact, the real meaning of the separation of church and state was not to protect the government from the church—it was meant to protect the church from the government.
The Bible: Our Nation’s True Foundation
The film powerfully shows that the Bible is not just an influence on society—it is its foundation.
Dr. Jeff Kloha shares: “The idea that there’s an order to the world, that there’s a structure to the world, is the foundation of modern science. You wouldn’t have science without it. Science was invented in the Western world from cultures that were based on the Bible.”
He continues: “One of the most important elements of our culture and history and our nation…the Bible is the most widely read, translated, printed book ever in history.”
Jordan Peterson emphasizes why this foundation matters: “The more ideas are dependent on a given idea, the more fundamental that idea is. It isn’t that the Bible is true… it’s that the Bible is the precondition for the manifestation of truth, which makes it way more true than just true.”
The film drives the point home that it’s not simply a matter of having some ideas from the Bible influencing our modern world; rather, the very material and structure of the modern world itself was shaped by the Bible.
