In this episode of Courage in Faith, Patriot Mobile CMO Scott Coburn sits down with Coach Joe Kennedy — a U.S. Marine, high school football coach, and the man whose quiet prayer at the 50-yard line helped restore religious freedom in America.
Coach Kennedy recounted how his story began with a simple commitment to God after watching Facing the Giants. “God, I’ll give you the glory after every game, win or lose,” he vowed. For years, that 15-second prayer was unnoticed — until his school district ordered him to stop and ultimately fired him for refusing to hide his faith.
Joe candidly shared the very human struggle behind the headlines: legal losses, public attacks, and spiritual doubt. “We lost seven times in a row…and I kept thinking, is this worth fighting for?” he said. But one truth remained unshaken — obedience matters. “It came down to a 15-second prayer…and to me it absolutely was.”
His willingness to stand firm sparked a national legal battle that reached the U.S. Supreme Court. And in 2022, the Court affirmed what millions of Americans already knew was true — kneeling in personal prayer should never cost someone their job. Coach Kennedy celebrated the ruling with humility, noting, “Nowhere in there does it say we have to have the victory…but we need to show up and fight the fight.”
Today, Joe continues that mission — sharing his testimony, championing faith in public life, and urging believers to courageously live out their convictions.
His reminder to the church is powerful: “You never know where God’s going to take you if you just listen and obey.”
Patriot Mobile is honored to highlight warriors like Coach Kennedy — Americans who refuse to bow, who love their country, and who boldly stand for faith, freedom, and the Constitution.
