On this week’s episode of Courage and Faith, Danielle Buck sits down with a remarkable guest — Jess Ford, the son of Embrace Grace founder Amy Ford, whose story is the reason the ministry exists today. Jess shares a deeply personal journey that began before he ever took his first breath.
“When she was 19 years old, she found out she was pregnant,” Jess explains. Overwhelmed, unmarried, and financially dependent, his mother initially scheduled an abortion. Jess recounts the moment everything changed: “As she began to understand what the abortion was going to be… she just became so overwhelmed with emotion that she hyperventilated and passed out.” A nurse stepped in and told Amy, “You’re too emotionally distraught… today isn’t your day.” Amy walked out of the clinic and eventually said “yes to that baby.” That baby was Jess.
But Jess shares that the story didn’t end with a courageous choice. Learning as a young teen that he had nearly been aborted plunged him into a season of confusion and self-harm soon followed, and at fourteen he hit a breaking point: “I decided that I was going to… take as many pills as possible.”
Then God intervened. “I was interrupted by a still small but very clear voice,” Jess says. “Jess, your parents may have said no to you in the beginning, but I said yes.” That moment transformed his life.
From that point forward, Jess began boldly following Christ — leading a student Bible study that grew from 20 students to more than 1,000 young people and stepping into his calling as a pro-life advocate. Today, Jess continues to build on that calling, traveling across the country to share his testimony and encouraging families facing unplanned pregnancies. He partners closely with Embrace Grace and other life-affirming ministries, helping equip local churches and communities to come alongside moms, dads, and babies in need — reminding them that every life has purpose.
“I just love Jesus,” Jess says simply. “And I want Him to use me in any way that He would.”
His message to every listener is clear: every life has purpose, and God makes no accidental children.
