Let the Church Bells Ring

Guest post by Kris Kubal, Chief Program Officer at Intercessors for America

In the heart of America, a quiet shift is unfolding—one that echoes through our streets and public spaces, signaling the fading resonance of our Judeo-Christian heritage and the bold emergence of a new influence. It’s a tale told not in words, but in sounds: the silence of church bells juxtaposed against the rising call of the adhan.

Remember the church bells? Those timeless chimes that once marked the rhythm of community life, ringing out joy, solemnity, and unity in towns across the nation. Today, they are largely silent. Many churches simply stopped the tradition, no longer seeing fit to ring them. Many because noise ordinances limit or prohibit their chiming in certain communities. San Antonio, Texas. Phoenix, Arizona. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Contrast this with another sound gaining ground: the adhan, the Muslim call to prayer, now blaring over loudspeakers in communities nationwide. Now blaring over loudspeakers, it unapologetically and forcefully declares its presence in our American cities.  From Dearborn, Michigan, to Paterson, New Jersey; Falls Church, Virginia; New York City, New York; Hamtramck, Michigan; and Minneapolis, Minnesota—the adhan’s call is becoming a fixture, a sonic marker of shifting cultural tides. In America.

This isn’t mere coincidence; it’s a vivid illustration of the waning embrace of Judeo-Christian values in our society and the unchecked rise of Islamic ideology. A silent battle is underway, far deeper than bells and calls to prayer, though these serve as its outward symbols. If you look closely, you’ll see Islam and Sharia purposely weaving itself into the fabric of our cities—not just in Minnesota and Michigan, but in Texas, Ohio, Florida, and beyond. These aren’t isolated pockets; they’re systematic efforts to establish self-contained Islamic communities, complete with their own governance, healthcare, schools, businesses, and more. Under the guise of religious freedom, a political system rooted in Sharia is advancing into our neighborhoods.

The signs are unmistakable. In cities across the nation, Islamic prayers are spilling onto streets, halting traffic and boldly claiming public space as a display of dominance. Beyond the usual hotspots, add Chicago suburbs, Miami, Florida, and Dallas, Texas, to the list.

Take a recent event on “World Hijab Day” in a Dallas public school: Islamists were welcomed in, fitting young girls with hijabs and niqabs while distributing Islamic literature and Qurans. It later emerged that the same school had been hosting student Islamic prayer  meetings on its premises. This isn’t happenstance—American Islamic leaders have openly articulated a plan to dominate and reshape the nation. To quote a recent Islamic leader, Sohail, shouting on the streets of New York City’s Taraweeh prayer, “We will not stop until Islam enters every home.”

Make no mistake: This is war. A war many busy Americans don’t notice—Islamists are counting on that. It cloaks itself in the language of tolerance and religious liberty, exploiting our freedoms to erode them from within. A closer examination of Sharia reveals its fundamental incompatibility with our Constitution. Consider just three glaring conflicts:

– Sharia mandates punishment for those who leave Islam and criminalizes free speech about Allah, Muhammad, or any dissent against Islam. Yet our First Amendment enshrines the unassailable rights to free expression and religious choice. Not compatible.

– Sharia endorses marriages between young girls—as young as 9—and adult men, while denying women equal rights. In stark opposition, the Fourteenth Amendment guarantees equal protection under the law for all, including children, women, and non-Muslims. Not compatible.

– Sharia permits cruel and unusual punishments like amputation, stoning, flogging, and execution for apostasy (leaving the Muslim faith), often without due process. This directly defies our Fifth, Fourteenth, and Eighth Amendments, which safeguard justice, fairness, and humane treatment. Not compatible.

How can we integrate a political ideology that seeks to undermine the bedrock of our republic? We can’t—and history offers no precedent for Sharia coexisting peacefully within another sovereign government. To embrace it is to invite our own unraveling.

There are hopeful signs. On March 3, Texas Republicans voted by an overwhelming 95 percent to ban Sharia law in the state.

So, let the church bells ring once more. Let their peals resound through our communities as we also raise our voices in city council meetings, school board sessions, and at the ballot box.

We must wake up and defend our nation’s foundations against the subtle- and not so subtle- infiltration of Sharia and Islam. If we falter, the adhan will soon dominate more American communities—a haunting reminder that our republic, once entrusted to us, has slipped away.
