In this powerful episode of Courage in Faith, Danielle Buck sits down with Staff Sergeant Bryce Cherryholmes to share his extraordinary journey of resilience, faith, and renewed purpose through the life-changing support of SoldierStrong.
Bryce, originally from Fort Worth, describes how he enlisted to honor his grandmother, saying, “I just felt obligated because it was something I could do to honor her.” After multiple combat deployments, he suffered several serious injuries, including a devastating back injury that eventually resulted in paralysis from the waist down. Doctors gave him less than a 10% chance of ever walking again. Bryce remembers thinking, “I thought I lost purpose for a long time… then I found purpose.”
Throughout his recovery, Bryce leaned heavily on his faith, explaining, “He does prepare me for every type of battle… I’m not gonna fight this battle just by myself.” His wife and children became his greatest motivators, especially as he dreamed of one day standing again—if only to hug them upright or walk his daughter down the aisle.
That hope grew into reality when Bryce was introduced to SoldierStrong, an organization providing advanced rehabilitative technology to injured veterans. After being selected for a research study involving an exoskeleton device, Bryce took his first steps in years. He shared the moment with emotion: “Tag, you’re it… I’m back to being me.”
Bryce now advocates passionately for SoldierStrong, calling the organization a lifeline for veterans searching for renewed independence. “You give individuals a chance to take the next step—literally forward,” he said, emphasizing the physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation the technology provides.
His story is a testament to perseverance, the power of faith, and the mission of SoldierStrong—helping America’s heroes stand, walk, and reclaim the purpose they thought they had lost.
