Take a Knee in Prayer with Coach Kennedy

Coach Joe Kennedy returns to the football field on September 1st to take a knee in prayer. After a decade-long fight for his right to silently pray at the 50-yard line after games, Coach Kennedy won his case at the Supreme Court last summer. This landmark victory is not just a victory for the coach but for all Americans who value our First Amendment religious freedom.

Coach Joe Kennedy’s Journey

For seven years, Coach Joe Kennedy, a Marine veteran, made a commitment to God to pray quietly after every football game, thanking God for the opportunity to coach his students. This simple act of personal religious expression caught the attention of his school district in Bremerton, Washington. In 2015, the school district suspended Coach Kennedy when he refused to stop his post-game prayers.  Believing that he had done nothing wrong by exercising his First Amendment right to pray as an American, he began a ten-year legal battle for his right to freely exercise his faith.

First Liberty Institute, the largest legal organization in the nation dedicated to defending religious liberty for all Americans, took on Coach Kennedy’s case all the way up to the Supreme Court.

Patriot Mobile Proudly Supports Coach Kennedy and First Liberty Institute

Coach Kennedy’s perseverance culminated in a historic landmark Supreme Court decision last summer, ruling 6-3 in favor of Coach Kennedy’s religious freedom rights enumerated in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The implications of this victory proved far-reaching. The Court’s decision overturned an almost 50-year-old Establishment Clause precedent, rightly affirming that Coach Kennedy’s right to prayer was protected by both the Free Exercise and Free Speech clauses of the First Amendment. This decision reminds us that our Constitution protects our right as Americans to express our faith, beliefs, and opinions without fear of reprisal.

As America’s only Christian conservative wireless provider, Patriot Mobile proudly supports First Liberty Institute. “First Liberty is an incredible organization fighting for religious freedom for all Americans,” said Glenn Story, Patriot Mobile’s Founder and CEO. “Their historic victories in the highest courts in the land should encourage all Americans to continue to fight for our freedoms.”

At Patriot Mobile, we honor and celebrate Coach Kennedy’s victory by joining him in prayer.
